Mold Growth Conditions
Mold growth is influenced by various factors, including:
- Moisture levels, which are adequately balanced without excessive dampness.
- Lack of air movement, as stagnant environments create favorable conditions for mold.
- Access to food, cellulose is a common food source for mold found in materials like wood, paper, cardboard, and organic substances.
These conditions play a crucial role in determining the speed at which mold grows. However, it’s crucial to emphasize that the mere presence of water in your basement does not guarantee mold infestation.
MOLD GROWTH: WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Are you concerned about the growth of mold in your space? Keep a close watch for these unmistakable signs that indicate potential mold issues:
The presence of condensation on walls
Persistent moisture on surfaces
Entering areas that immediately trigger sneezing and excessive nose-blowing. Most molds produce a musty odor can be the first indication of a problem.
MINOR MOLD CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS
Products to use:
Hydrogen Peroxide: Leave the surface to sit for 10 minutes. Scrub the area to make sure to remove all the mold and mold stains. Wipe down the surface to remove residual mold and spores.
Oxyclean: Spray the surface to cover the mold. Let the oxyclean penetrate for about 10 minutes. Wipe down the surface to remove residual mold and spores.
Product to NOT use:
Bleach: Bleach does not do a good job of penetrating porous surfaces. It’s inability to reach deep into porous surfaces leaves mold roots untouched.
